I’ve always loved Baker and been fascinated by this huge monument to heat in the middle of nowhere and wanted to know the true story behind it. One thing I didn’t mention is that this massive tower, the tallest structure for miles around, seems dwarfed by the desert that surrounds it.
Travel Tip The only way to get to Baker is by car, so fill ‘er up, turn on the cruise control and turn up the tunes and sit back and watch the desert unfold as you make your way to Baker. The Temp 134 Giftshop closes at 6pm and my advice is to get there around 5pm when the heat of the day is over and the light starts to get smoky and low.
