Colonia, Uruguay is just an hour or so from Buenos Aries by hydrofoil so you’d be foolish if you were visiting one not to take the time to visit the other. I have happy memories of the crisp sunny day we spent walking through the streets of this cobbled town but we were shocked at how expensive it was to buy even a coffee and a coke. I suspect if you ventured further inland away from this tourist mecca that things would have gotten a lot cheaper very quickly.

Travel Tip Though the journey across the Rio De La Plata only takes an hour, you are travelling from one country to another which means passports, customs and immigration control and all that goes with it. Consequently arrive at least an hour early for your trip in the morning to avoid undue stress and panic!
